Highlights of Orientation Day

Day 1

The registration started at 9 in the morning in the blue building. Same as last year, the newcomers got their own stickers on shirt with their names on it. The committees brought them to F3C09, which is the place the activities held.

An introduction was given by the two emcees, Sui Lun and Soon Yew, followed by Ethan Tiong, the current president of PharmNotts society.

Next, the activities started with Human Bingo. Each person brings along the form, walk around and meet new friends. Then, the commitee invite some people form the list to perform in front us. Dancing to Oppa Gangnam Style, Shuffling, Can do Split, Name out 10 Korean drama's title, pumping in 2 minutes and etc.

Familiar? Brandon (wearing PharmNotts shirt) was the shuffler during the Orientation last year.

Watch the Oppa Gangnam Style danced by the members here! x)

Picture Hunt was next. The newcomers formed groups and started to hunt pictures from the list.

The losers dance to Chicken Dance. x)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 2

Everyone woke up early, had their breakfast, and gathered in F3C09 lecture room. It was started with SCREAM game, where in group, everyone had their eyes closed, and when counted to 3, each person must look at a person's eye. If two of them look each other, they have to scream. Whoever scream first, whoever wins.

And next, the game of making lines with their belongings.

Dance was the next activity. Each group learnt a dance with different korean songs and performed in front everyone. x)

After lunch, they had station games. Ultimate Code, Continue the Lyrics, Water Relay, Guess the word, Transter rice with face and etc.

And so yeap, before annoucing the winning team, all of them were told that there were some seniors hiding in their group, acting as junior, and so they have to pick them out. Isaac Tan was the first senior who picked out by the junior, and HuiWen was the last "SPY" picked by them. Of course, there were some other juniors got picked, they really do look like one of us. hahaha...

THE SPIES!

The winner team representatives.....

So that's all for the highlights of Orientation 2012. Thanks to all the newcomers who joined us. I understand that most of you were exhausted running back and forth. Anyhow, we still hope that you enjoyed very much, think of the time when you get to meet new friends and able to share your stories. Are you getting close to them now? XD

Thanks to all the commitees as well, we appreciate all your hard work, especially our lovely Even Manager, See Shao Qin, who started to plan this event before the summer holidays.

So this event was a SUCCESS!

The "Pharmer's" Mind in UNMC -- 5 --

Hello to everyone! I am Yan Ling, currently a full time “Pharmer” in UNMC. I am here to share with you guys some of my thoughts as a Pharmacy student.  The most frequently asked question that I my friends or relatives asked me was: “Is Pharmacy a difficult course?”
My answer is always the same, which is: “Yes, I would say it is challenging but I really enjoy doing my course.”
Indeed, I always believe that every course has its own difficulty and challenges to overcome. Neither course is hard nor easy. When it comes to choosing a course to pursue in a university, what matters the most is our interest.  As long as we are passionate about what we study, we will fear no challenges that come in our way, my friends. Instead, we will feel a sense of satisfaction after we learn something new, and that is what I feel.  There was a time when our brains were overloaded with lots of new information in a short time.  Sometimes I felt a little bit confused even after the lecturers had finished the whole topic. However, I reckon that was pretty normal for an ordinary human being like me. I never give up and always keep the faith that I can overcome all the challenges.  As I believe that what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger by gearing me up for the upcoming harder challenges.
I still remember vividly that after I finished my secondary school, I chose medicine when I applied for scholarship. However, after attending one-week exposure programme in a hospital, I realized that the working life as a doctor was not what I dreamt of. Thus, I surveyed about the job prospects as a pharmacist. A pharmacist can work in a wide range of fields, including hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy, industry pharmacy, pharmaceutics and education. We can work in a team with all the medical staffs in the hospital. For the innovative business lovers, working in a retail pharmacy would be a great choice. For the people who love to deal with chemicals, industry pharmacy would be the option. On top of that, a pharmacist can work in a research field and invent new drugs. Furthermore, a pharmacist can further the study to be a lecturer. Hence, as a pharmacist wannabe, we can have a myriad of choices as our working path in near future. Since I have a strong interest in biology and chemistry, and I am always keen to work in the healthcare field, therefore I have chosen pharmacy as my degree course and I have no regret for my choice.
Since a picture speaks a thousand words, let’s keep the word short and have a quick glance on why it is fun to be a pharmacy student!

Lastly, I would like to share a piece of quote with all of you.
“When you are about to give up, think about the reason why you held on for so long.”
People tend to give up when things get harder. Before doing that, please recall why you start all this in the first place. Be brave, overcome the difficulties and challenges. Not to forget, enjoy every single moment as a “Pharmer” and make the best out of each day in the university.

The "Pharmer's" Mind in UNMC -- 4 --

A big HELLO to all of you guys. Hope all of YOU enjoyed your holidays and started to prepare yourself for the coming year, coming semester. ^^ Thanks to Mag, I am here to share my bits of my 1st year’s life in Nottingham.

Well, I am considering one of those few pupils who applied before the semester start! (Maybe the last one! XD) When my A level result was out, I was like, “Huh? What should I do now?” It took me centuries to decide that I am going for Pharmacy at Nottingham and by that time, it is 2 weeks before 1st year start. Thanks to Dr. Tung, I am officially a PHARMACY STUDENT of Nottingham.

University’s life is totally deviated from school’s life. Stay away from family, no more mom’s cooks, minimum entertainments available here, mountain of reports and assignments from weeks to weeks, and etc. Most of these never have I encountered before, but surprisingly, I managed all of them with my bare hand quite finely. Even though I lost plenty amount of SLEEPs during this period, but everything is totally WORTH. At here, I learned to be independent (away form parents means you have to do all the cooking and laundry and bla bla bla YOURSELF!!), to be hardworking (with all those genius in the class, you have to work extra harder than before!!!), able to manage my time PERFECTLY (time management is a crucial part in Uni if you don’t want any of your works compiled in a stack.) and etc etc.

Aside from all these, what I treasure the most, at here, is all of YOU! Meeting up with some awesome people like you, You, YOu and YOU is such a wonderful thing. Being in the same class, celebrating events and festivals together, discuss and argue for reports and assignments, study like mad in the same environment for exams, and not least, hang out together after class, cooking in the same hall, and lots more memorable things. Friends have occupied vital part of my university’s life. Without them, I can’t tell what will happen. XD I do apologize if I done anything wrong and accidentally touch your feelings. Sometimes I just don’t realize it. No hard feeling, okay? ^^

Overall, I am satisfied with my performance but yet there is still room for improvement. It has been sure an amazing year for me and I am really looking forward for the coming years at here and also in UK.
By the way, my target of the coming years is to memorize all your names and faces. I am kinda weak with names so please forgive me if I shout out the wrong name in front of you. Haha.

God bless you and good luck. ^^

Will you miss us?

Look back to September 2011, the orientation day organized by our senior for the new batch was held. That is the first thing our senior did for us, they made bonds between all of us and all of us really had fun! Other than that, I will not forget the moments when we were panic on filling manufacturing records, they always helped us as much as possible although they actually already forget most of it. Besides, there are also many other moments we shared together, The Christmas Party, Health Weeks, Viva La Vida Night, Red & Black Night.....

And of course, I believe in between a person to person or a group to group there are moments of misunderstood that all of us doesn't want it to happen. I know this is a bad timing but, if anyone did wrongly on something, let's say sorry and forgive them alright? Let's make everything clear before bringing it to the coming academic year alright?    =)        P-E-A-C-E!

x) Well the main point of this post is actually our dear seniors success and are leaving to UK soon (or some might reached there already perhaps). I am so proud of them because they did their best and finally they can fly to UK, which is what all of us hoping to do. The moments we shared and enjoyed we will never forget and hoping all of you take care and enjoy the fun in UK. x) We wish you all the best in UK and good luck in everything you all do.

As what Sean Tan mentioned
"Have a safe flight and enjoy your stay in the UK. Don't forget to retrieve your luggage when you touch down! Take care and stay AWESOME! ;) *for those who are flying with the Emirates, DONT EVER EVER EVER SKIP ANY OF THEIR MEALS EVEN IF YOURE CRYING OR FEELING HOMESICK :D "

Good Bye and see you all soon!
Take care

Don't miss us.......=)  hahahahaha kidding..
